How often should i wax and wash my new dreadlocks?

Dreads should be washed at least once a week, i personally wash mine 2-3 times a week. Wax is a hydrophobic substance which means it repels water and is never really absorbed into the hair it just sits on top collecting dirt, oil, lint, and possibly bugs.

It also just makes dreads look like candlesticks eventually no matter how little you use, and most people that use wax on their dreads are the ones that us clean dreadlock wearers kind of look down on a little because more often than not they have dirty unkept looking dreads which perpetuates many ignorant myths non dread heads sometimes believe and will use as proof that dreads are bad.

Dreads don't really need any products at all, but if you are really crazy about controlling frizz i suggest all natural purified aloe vera gel which can be purchased at health food stores, it is water based so it washes out easily with a good shampooing, just rub a small amount into the roots to help with maintenance, it also conditions locks without causing excessive build up or oily residue that could make locks come undone. How often should i wax and wash my new dreadlocks?
never... that what all the smelly hippies i use to be friends with did, just back-combed to get started and then never wash them. some of them have them half way down there backs now and haven't washed them in years. Not sure if that a good plan tho as and people often avoid them because they look smelly and horrible. also make it very hard to get a job. have fun dude! How often should i wax and wash my new dreadlocks?
You should never wax them because the wax will build up. You can wash them as often as you choose.
